I just want to hug him, now I want to read some Harry is adopted stories. And this bed is probably bigger than what he really had, wasnt it a cot? The thought put into the detail is very nice.

(Ps. One thing I noticed is his head is too aligned with his neck, the head sits away from the neck a bit more.)

I take back my earlier response, you're totally right about his head/neck.

lol...  Sorry I was defensive.

I'm not usually too proud to admit I messed something up, but sometimes I'm wrong about whether I messed up or not!  Usually I acknowledge my own mistakes so people know I'm aware of them.  But I was blind this time, and now I can see it.

Yes, the bed probably is too big.  I think I start out drawing the area around Harry, then leave the rest as I fill in the background.  Then finish the bed without taking into account that I haven't filled in enough space around it to keep it a smaller size.  if that makes sense at all!  I don't envision far enough ahead to properly draw it, sometimes.

I actually used reference for his head and neck... I don't think it is wrong, as he is looking downwards and holding his head back.  Like, tilt your neck back, and yet still look down.  Like leaning away from something without actually leaning.  Do you know what I mean?  That's what I was going for, perhaps it was an odd position to choose though.  But it's entirely possible I didn't shade properly enough to depict it realistically.  I drew it traditional and I was scared to ruin his face, so I avoided shading it.

Poor little Harry! He looks so lonely and sad watching the spider crawling around.
Love all those details, the spider webs, the piping and the fuse box, and all those small objects down to the small red matchbox car.

thanks!  Yeah, poor Harry.  He looks like he is thinking... "Oh boy, a new day.  Again.  Hooray."

I'm glad you like the little details, especially the piping and fuses!  Adding those in really made it feel like a utility/cupboard area under there, rather than just an uber small room.

Welcome!

That's exactly what I thought. :D It does look like a utility area and does make the fact a child was kept there even more cruel.

really lovely :) I like how he's quietly watching the cute spider walking there, how messy his hair is, how the clothes are too big (and really, it looks great), the hole in one of the socks... all the details are really nice!

thank you!  Some of the details were inspired by the drawing in the new book (have you seen it yet?)
But I like how this turned out, and I think I will probably do more like this (with the traditional drawing first, and then the coloring after).  I don't know why, but it just seems... hmm, not "easier" to DO, but easier to get the look I want.  If that makes sense.  Like digital is so... precise and clean.

I like it!  The art is very pretty.  None of it is inspired by the films.  For instance, Hogwarts is a bit smaller, vines growing all over the side of it, etc.  More like home!  I think that is one of the best parts of it.  Something official, that you can look at WHILE you enjoy the story (rather than on the side here at dA) that is NOT from the films.  It feels like you are reading it for the first time again, because the designs are so fresh it lets you forget the films even exist.

That said, I wish there was a lot more drawings.  It starts out very strong.  Lots of drawings in the beginning.  Owls flying around, the Dursleys, Hagrid on the bike, in the shack, in the boat with Harry, etc.  Diagon Alley has so much potential.  Instead it is just 2 two page spreads of a row of buildings lining the bottom.  Oh, and I think a shop sign on a different page.  There are lots of drawings of "other characters" in it but I would like to see real scenes featuring the trio.  For instance, there is a picture of the ghosts, which is quite amazing.  Then you get another one of Peeves.  Suits of armor, and lots of the castle (there is a giant orange and black picture of the castle for the Halloween chapter, for instance).  I think there is about 3 drawings of the troll - only one of which shows Harry fighting it.  Then there is a 2 page spread on troll anatomy.  Same with Norbert - no pictures of that scene at all.  You get a small drawing of Malfoy looking in the window, a 2 page spread of a random dragon perched on top of a random castle, and another "info" type page of different kinds of dragon eggs.  When Charlie and friends pick Norbert up, it's another castle drawing with silhouettes of a few people on broomsticks.

Well, I am getting a bit wordy.  I'll just say the majority of pictures of the actual characters are portrait types.  I think it could have been a lot better.  But I still find it very inspiring!

This is amazing! I think the shoulders are perfect for him being in Dudley's clothes. Like whenever I wear my brothers sweaters they tend to make me look small but bigger in the shoulders. It's just how they sit. Very well done!!!

thanks!  I kind of think his shoulders just look... too bulky.  Like, they are sitting too high up for such a skinny kid as Harry.  I feel like they should angle downwards more,  I guess.  But as you say, it is a sweater and appears to be a rather thick one, so I can kind of see how it still works.  Also, this is the early 90's.  Shoulderpads were a thing back then, were they not?

That they were. Besides, it makes him look more neglected in a way. Most kids who are neglected tend to have tensed shoulders. So it adds to that.

I love how you've emphasized that despite the cramped quarters and Harry's shabby clothes, everything in his little space is very tidy and well-ordered.  I love his hair!

Thanks!  I guess he really doesn't have a lot of belongings to be messy with.  The picture in the book shows a very messy place, and I kind of liked the way it looked.  I'm afraid it is only my lack of imagination that has this one so neat.  I couldn't think of anything to line the walls with.
